I am pleased to announce that for the first time ever, Team “Got Organs?” will be competing in the grueling 2012 Alcan 5000 winter rally in the name of raising awareness for organ donations in conjunction with the BC Kidney Foundation!

 

In British Columbia, less than 20% of the eligible population are enlisted as registered organ donors. However, over 80% of them have said that they would be willing to be a donor if the opportunity arose. The “Got Organs?” campaign is here to help close that gap, and bring exposure to the need for more organ donors around the world!!

 

Becoming a donor is easier than you think!

 

Could you imagine spending nine days in the Arctic's perpetual darkness, confined to a BMW sports car? Sounds crazy? We think so, and that's why we're going north!

 

The Alcan 5000 winter rally is a 9-day long adventure that starts in Kirkland, WA and travels through some of the most remote destinations on the entire globe. Team “Got Organs?” will have to endure temperatures as low as -60°C when they journey through such places including Anchorage, Whitehorse, Inuvik, and Tuktoyaktuk. Spanning a total of 16,000km round trip, including over 400km to be driven atop the frozen Mackenzie River and the Beaufort Sea, Team “Got Organs?”'s BMW M3 is in the works of being retrofitted in order to be able to cope with such intense Arctic conditions. Hopefully by proving that we can do the impossible in our mighty little M3, people will be inspired to help close the gap and sign up to be an organ donor today.

Update! - January 12, 2012

 

Join us for our Fundraising and Information Night at the Red Lion Bar and Grill, Thursday January 26th at 6:30 pm!  Learn more about the importance of organ donations and our motivation for participating in the Alcan 5000.  Meet people who have been personally affected by kidney failure, and see the impact that the lack of organ donors in BC has had on their lives.  You’ll also get the chance to chat one-on-one with the members of Team GotOrgans and hear more about our drive to the Arctic.  It’s sure to be a fun evening, and we’d love to see you there!  It is free to attend, but donations are always welcomed!
